India beat South Africa in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final to end their 11-year drought for an ICC trophy, and the captain of India Rohit Sharma gave an emotional homage to departing coach Rahul Dravid during the victory.
Because of all he has done for Indian cricket over the past twenty to 20-25 years, Rohit felt that coach Dravid deserved the T20 World Cup trophy more than any of the players.
"Rahul Dravid, more than anyone of us, deserved the World Cup trophy. What he has done for Indian cricket for the past 20-25 years... I think this was the only thing that was left in his cabinet. Very happy from all of us, on behalf of the entire team, that we could do this for him. You saw how proud he was and how excited he was," Rohit said.
Even with his remarkable career, Dravid was never a World Cup winner as a player. He competed for India in the 2003 ODI World Cup, where they were defeated by Australia. India had to suffer an early departure from the 2007 ODI World Cup as captain. But now he has won an ICC trophy as a captain of the India national team.
