Controversial stumping sparks fixing allegations in Dhaka Premier League match
With just 7 runs needed to win and only a few overs remaining, Shinepukur’s Minhajul Abedin Sabbir was stumped in a manner that many have called "suspicious." The incident took place on the final ball of the 43rd over when Gulshan’s spinner Naeem Islam delivered a wide delivery outside off-stump. Sabbir stepped down the pitch but made no real effort to play the ball—already strange under the circumstances. What followed only intensified suspicions.

A Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL) match between Shinepukur Cricket Club and Gulshan Cricket Club has sparked widespread controversy, following a bizarre stumping incident that left fans, commentators, and cricket officials baffled.
Wicketkeeper Alif Ahmed initially fumbled the ball and failed to remove the bails on his first attempt. By then, Sabbir had enough time to return to his crease. Instead, he casually lifted his bat and kept it in the air, seemingly offering himself up for a stumping. Alif didn’t miss the second chance. The third umpire reviewed the footage and gave Sabbir out, sealing the match for Gulshan Cricket Club by a narrow 5-run margin.
Even the match commentator couldn’t hide his shock, exclaiming: “Shocking! I’ve never seen anything like this before.”
The footage quickly went viral on social media, drawing heavy criticism and accusations of match-fixing. Fans and analysts alike questioned how a player could be dismissed in such a careless, almost deliberate, manner in such a high-stakes moment.
This wasn’t the only eyebrow-raising moment of the match. Earlier, in the 36th over of Shinepukur’s innings, batter Rahim Ahmed was also stumped curiously. He danced down the track to a delivery from Nihaduzzaman but didn’t attempt a genuine shot. The ball spun past him, yet he didn’t try to get back into his crease. Instead, he simply turned and walked toward the pavilion, as though anticipating his dismissal.
The incidents raised enough concern that the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) took notice. League coordinator Sabbir Rahman told the media: “We’ve seen the footage. That was the last wicket of the day. These matters rest on the match referee and the TV umpire sitting beside him. They've certainly reviewed the footage and will submit their reports accordingly. CCDM has informed the BCB’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU), who are now assessing whether action is needed.”
