Bangladesh have been officially invited to play in the first-ever Wheelchair Cricket World Cup. This is a big step forward for adaptive cricket in the country and an important moment for inclusive sports.
The founding member and leader of the Bangladesh Wheelchair Cricket Team, Mohammad Mohsin, confirmed the news. He called it a "proud and emotional moment for Bangladesh."
The event is being put together by the Pakistan Wheelchair Cricket Council, which is a founding member of the International Wheelchair Cricket Council. It will run from September 30 to October 9 and have games in both Lahore and Faisalabad. Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, England, Kenya, and the United Arab Emirates are the eight countries that will be taking part in the world event.
A group of 21 people, including 15 players, 5 officials, and 1 judge, will make up each national team. Even though Bangladesh was given a very important invitation, their ability to go is still uncertain because they do not have enough money to pay for it.
“We haven’t secured any sponsors or financial backing yet,” Mohsin shared. “We sincerely urge the Government of Bangladesh, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Bangladesh Cricket Board to step forward and support this initiative. This is an opportunity to showcase our national pride on an international stage.”
While funding remains uncertain, the team has already begun its preparations, fueled by passion and the dream of representing Bangladesh globally. Mohsin emphasized that the team is determined to make the country proud and hopes that both the public and stakeholders will rally behind them.
“This is more than a tournament; it’s the beginning of a new chapter in Bangladesh’s sporting history. We call on the media, cricket fans, and every Bangladeshi to support us and help turn this dream into a reality,” Mohsin added.
