There were claims of match-fixing in a recent Dhaka Premier League (DPL) game, which made the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) very worried. They made it clear that any breach of cricketing rules would be dealt with harshly.

At the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on April 9, Gulshan Cricket Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club played in a DPL match. This is when the dispute started.  During the game, there were a few strange moments, including a stumping that looked like Shinepukur players were willingly giving up their wickets.  A lot of people in the cricket community and on social media have said that Shinepukur threw the match on purpose.

Amid the growing outcry, the BCB issued an official statement, stating, “The BCB wishes to reiterate its firm commitment to upholding the integrity of the game and maintaining the highest ethical standards in cricket. The Board has a zero-tolerance policy toward any form of corruption or misconduct that may compromise the spirit of the sport. The BCB Anti-Corruption Unit and the League's Technical Committee have promptly initiated an investigation into the alleged irregularities associated with the match.  The BCB remains committed to ensuring fairness and discipline in all cricketing activities under its jurisdiction and will take the necessary actions based on the findings of the investigation.”

It makes it clear that the BCB is serious about the situation.  The match is already being looked into by its Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) and the DPL Technical Committee.  The board told the people that the right steps would be taken based on the results of the current investigation.

The BCB had to take this strong stand to protect the reputation of the Dhaka Premier League, which is Bangladesh's most prestigious domestic one-day event and is known as List A cricket.  The board's quick response indicates that they are becoming increasingly concerned about protecting cricket's image as it comes under greater scrutiny and speculation.
