India's opening batter KL Rahul's dismissal in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Perth has stirred controversy, with many questioning the third umpire's decision. Rahul, who looked confident at the crease, was given out for 26 runs after a DRS review despite unclear evidence.

The incident occurred in the 23rd over, when Australian pacer Mitchell Starc bowled a delivery that passed close to Rahul's outside edge. There were two distinct noises as the ball went past, and while the on-field umpire, Richard Kettleborough, did not raise his finger, Australian captain Pat Cummins opted for a review.
The third umpire's decision came under scrutiny as he relied on a spike from the Snicko technology, even though the front-on angle was unavailable to determine if the bat had indeed made contact with the ball or if it had hit the pad. Rahul appeared certain that the noise was from his bat hitting the pad, but the third umpire overturned the on-field decision, giving Rahul out.

Rahul's dismissal came at a crucial time for India, who were struggling at 47/4. He had managed to score 26 runs off 74 balls, hitting three boundaries, and was India's top scorer at the time of his departure. The decision added pressure on the Indian team, which found itself in deep trouble at the end of the first session with just 54 runs on the board and four wickets down.
