Gujarat Titans (GT) pulled off a fantastic chase against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 35 of IPL 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Riding on Jos Buttler’s stunning unbeaten 97 off 54 balls, GT chased down a massive target of 204 with four balls to spare, jumping to the top of the points table at the halfway mark.

Batting first Delhi looked in control at one point but kept losing wickets at key moments. They were 93/3 when Nair got out, and although Tristan Stubbs (31 off 21) and Axar Patel (39 off 32) kept the scoreboard ticking, it was Ashutosh’s quickfire 37 off just 19 balls in the death overs that helped DC go past 200. They eventually finished on 203/8.
In response Gujarat lost early wickets but Buttler and Sherfane Rutherford turned the game around with a 119-run stand for the third wicket. Rutherford played a slow but steady knock of 43 off 34 balls, while Buttler kept the scoreboard moving with class and control. The game got tight near the end, but Rahul Tewatia sealed it in style with a quick finish 11 runs needed off 7 balls, done in just three.
Shubman Gill : "At one point, it looked like the total was going to be 220-230. The way we pulled back, credit to the bowlers. Even in the first game, chasing around 245, we were right in the game, lost by just 10 runs. We've been chasing well, we've been defending well. They were ahead in the game, with Axar batting, it was difficult to hit the fast bowlers, so we thought we'll continue with them.
Disappointing way to get out (run-out), but we've got plenty of games here and hopefully will get my chance. Magnificent the way Butter and Rutherford rotated strike and those hits were tremendous. It was not just brutal hitting, it was very calculated batting, it was a treat to watch. Very happy to get this win."
Jos Buttler : " really pleased with the two points. It was a beautiful wicket to bat on, just wanted to try and take it deep, pick our moments to attack. We've built some nice partnerships along the way. It's hot, surprised how much fluid you need, how draining it is. Cramping up and stuff. Part of the game, you got to be fit and perform under pressure and heat. (On his diving catch) I have kept poorly in the first six games, I was determined to try and keep better.
Always nice when you manage to hang on to one like that. I have enjoyed batting with him (Rutherford). He hits sixes out of nowhere. His sixes off Mohit changed the game and the momentum. You want to win the game, I had my chances before that, two points is the most important thing. I told Rahul not to worry about my score, we got to win. Credit to him, he's done that over the last few years where he can find the fence from ball one."
Axar Patel : "We were 10-15 runs short. When we tried to accelerate, we kept losing wickets. We couldn't finish the way we wanted. We did bowl decently. Had we managed to create few more chances, things could have been closer. It was a matter of couple of hits. We won't think much about this loss."
