Nahid Rana is quickly becoming a name to watch on the world stage. He is one of the fastest growing pacers in Bangladesh. With his raw speed and fiery personality, he's been getting attention since his first match. Even though he has a PSL deal, his main goal right now is to make a big difference in the upcoming home match against Zimbabwe.
But is he really Bangladesh's secret weapon? This question becomes more important when you think about the conditions that will be present in Sylhet, a place known for having pitches that are good for fast bowling. Zimbabwe have a threat in the form of tall, fast Blessing Muzarabani, but Bangladesh's head coach Phil Simmons thinks Nahid could be just as dangerous.
Muzarabani is a huge person who stands 6 feet 8 inches tall and can get extra speed and strange bounce. Simmons doesn't worry about him, though. The former coach of the West Indies thinks that Bangladesh's batters are ready.
“If the wicket is favoring the Pacers, he's a threat to any team in the world. His height gives him a different advantage But again, a number of the guys that played against him before, mostly in franchise cricket or things, so they have an idea about him and they are trying to find, making sure that they have a way of playing against him,” Simmons admitted.
When asked directly about Nahid Rana and his role in the upcoming series, Simmons didn’t hesitate to draw a comparison with Muzarabani. “It's the same thing like Muzarabani. They are different in a way that batters have been troubled. Nahid rana has the pace that most fast bowlers would be dying for. And if he's bowling in the right area, he's definitely going to be a threat for that,” he said.
