Pakistan's legendary spinner Mushtaq Ahmed worked as Bangladesh's spin bowling coach until ICC T20 World Cup 2024. However, there is some concern about getting him in next.

Mushtaq has been named spin bowling consultant for England's under-19 team. Mushtaq also has additional obligations until next December. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is not giving up hope of a long-term contract with Mushtaq. Mushtaq will work for BCB in his spare time outside of other engagements till December.

BCB Chief Executive Officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury while talking to media in Mirpur said, “When we contacted Mushtaq Ahmed, we definitely asked him for certain days. But then it was not possible because he had already made some agreements. Apart from the one with the England Cricket Boar, he has some other contracts. Then we signed a contract with him keeping in mind only T20 World Cup till then. We are in contact with him, we talked today too. He has some previous contracts till December. The time he will be available outside of other work will be given to the Bangladesh Cricket Board. We are also talking about a long-term contract with him.”

Nizamuddin added, “We have sent the schedule of our upcoming series. After seeing that, he will give a decision as soon as possible. In the last press conference, our board president said, we are interested in him. Since we are getting positive response from him too, we are thinking about him for now.”

“We will ask for certain days. For consultants that we are not going with full-time, we will schedule a certain number of days a year. Since we have FTP finalized till 2027, we will discuss with him.”
