Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club have clinched their maiden List A Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL) title beating last year's winners Abahani Limited in round four of the Super League stage at Mirpur.
Nurul Hasan Sohan stepped up once again to guide his team over the line, making the team's 12th win in 14 matches (with one more to go). Chasing 230 against Abahani, Sheikh Jamal were reeling at 78/5 before Sohan stitched two important partnerships with Parvez Rasool (33) and Ziaur Rahman (39* off 26).
The wicketkeeper-batter slammed run-a-ball unbeaten 81 with 8 fours and 2 sixes - including hitting Tanzim Hasan Sakib for 20 in the 47th over to finish in style.
Sheikh Jamal had never won a 50-over DPL (even before the tournament was given List A status in 2013). They won the T20 version of DPL in 2018-19, when Sohan captained the team.
Earlier in the day, Mohammad Saifuddin lit up with 33-ball 44 to take Abahani to a fighting score of 229/6 after the top order failed.
Meanwhile in Savar, Legends of Rupganj did everything to stay in contention for championship but they cannot match Sheikh Jamal's tally. Sabbir Rahman, Shakib Al Hasan and Chirag Jani made scintillating performances to seal 104-run win over Gazi Group Cricketers.
Sabbir missed his ton as he struck 83-ball 90 while Shakib flexed his muscles in a quick-fire knock of 59 runs from 26 balls hitting 6 fours and 3 sixes as Rupganj posted 293/9.
Indian all-rounder Chirag wrecked havoc taking four for one at one stage to reduce GGC to 34/6. He ended with a five-wicket haul.
Prime Bank Cricket Club's Tamim Iqbal and Anamul Haque went berserk against Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club, chasing down 230 with 23.2 overs and 10 wickets remaining. Anamul scored his third ton of the tournament (112* off 84 with 11 fours and 6 sixes) as well as becoming first batter to cross 1000 runs in a single DPL season.
Tamim raised his 20th List A ton (most by any Bangladeshi) as he made 81-ball 109* with 9 fours and 7 sixes.
Karim Janat and Rubel Hossain picked up four-wicket hauls to rout Rupganj Tigers for 229. Pakistani Saad Nasim top-scored with 85 runs.
