Sourav Ganguly heaped praise on Shreyas Iyer after his stunning innings in PBKS' opening match of IPL 2025 against GT. 

Shreyas Iyer made a commanding statement with a stunning display of power-hitting in Punjab Kings' IPL 2025 opener. His explosive unbeaten knock of 97 off just 42 balls played a crucial role in Punjab Kings' thrilling 11-run win over Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. 

Iyer's innings, featuring five boundaries and nine towering sixes, propelled Punjab Kings to a formidable 243/6. The total proved to be too much for Gujarat Titans, as they could muster 232/5 in their quota of 20 overs.

Iyer’s breathtaking knock caught the attention of former India captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, who was full of praise for the 30-year-old. Sharing his thoughts on social media, Ganguly called Iyer the "most improved batsman" over the past year, highlighting his growth into a player capable of excelling in all three formats of international cricket. 

“Shreyas Iyer the most improved batsman in last 1 yr .. ready for all formats. Great to see his improvement after a few issues on length,” Ganguly posted on X.

Even after being a key member of the ODI XI, Shreyas Iyer saw himself being dropped from Test and T20Is. However, with strong domestic performances in the recent Ranji Trophy and dominating performances in the IPL, he is pushing himself back into the national team for those two formats.
