Bangladesh leg-spinner Rishad Hossain is finally going to play in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) this year. He will join Litton Das and Nahid Rana, two other Bangladeshis, in what will be a historic season for Bangladeshis in the league.
Litton will play for Karachi Kings, Rishad will play for Lahore Qalandars, and Nahid Rana, a young fast bowler, will play for Peshawar Zalmi, but only after Bangladesh finish their home Test series against Zimbabwe.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has given Litton and Rishad full-season No Objection Certificates (NOCs). Nahid's time in the PSL will start after the Sylhet Test is over.
Several franchise teams have been interested in Rishad since he had a big game with the ball in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Even though several teams have been interested in the 21-year-old before, this is his first time playing in a major T20 event abroad.
Speaking to the media at Mirpur, an excited Rishad said, "Alhamdulillah. I’m finally getting the NOC and heading to Pakistan. Honestly, I couldn’t have asked for anything more. I’ll give my best, and hopefully, we can return as champions. I won’t overthink the conditions—I’ll focus on one game at a time and try to deliver whatever the team needs from me."
Rishad sees his participation in PSL not just as a personal milestone, but also as a chance to uplift Bangladesh cricket’s profile internationally. "It’s a great opportunity—for me, and also for Bangladesh cricket. I want to learn as much as I can and contribute more to my national team in the future."
Having already toured Pakistan for the Champions Trophy earlier, Rishad is somewhat familiar with the local playing conditions. He added, "I’ve seen how the wickets behave and studied the batters I’ve played against. I’m working on plans based on those experiences—who plays well where, who struggles, and so on."
The 10th edition of the PSL will run from April 11 to May 18. Rishad’s Lahore Qalandars will kick off their campaign on opening night, facing off against Islamabad United.
