India's wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant etched his name into the history books on December 15, 2024, by becoming the third Indian wicketkeeper to reach 150 dismissals in Test cricket. The milestone was achieved on Day 2 of the ongoing third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia at The Gabba, Brisbane.
Pant entered the prestigious club of Indian wicketkeepers following his catch of Australian opener Usman Khawaja. On the first ball of the 17th over, Jasprit Bumrah delivered a beautiful ball just outside off-stump, which lured Khawaja into a tentative defensive shot. The ball found the edge, and Pant, as sharp as ever behind the stumps, comfortably pouched the catch. This dismissal not only put India on top early in the day but also took Pant's tally of dismissals to 150 in Test cricket.
With this achievement, Pant joins the legendary MS Dhoni and Syed Kirmani on an elite list of Indian wicketkeepers with the most dismissals in the longest format. MS Dhoni leads the charts with a staggering 294 dismissals (256 catches and 38 stumpings), followed by Syed Kirmani, who has 198 dismissals (160 catches and 38 stumpings). Pant, at just 27 years old, has now racked up 150 dismissals—135 catches and 15 stumpings—in just 80 innings.
Most dismissals by an Indian wicket-keeper in Tests:
- 294 – MS Dhoni (166 innings)
- 198 – Syed Kirmani (151 innings)
- 150* – Rishabh Pant (80 innings)
- 130 – Kiran More (90 innings)
- 107 – Nayan Mongia (77 inning)
