A very close game in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) 2024-25 saw Gulshan Cricket Club beat Dhanmondi Sports Club by just two wickets. The game was like a pendulum that kept swinging until the very last over. The match, which took place at BKSP-4, had it all: slow knocks, big appearances, and an exciting last over that had everyone on the edge of their seats.
Dhanmondi had a slow start when they were put in to bat. Habibur Rahman and Sunzamul Islam added 33 runs to the scorecard as openers before Sunzamul was out for 17 off 18 balls. Habibur scored 32 runs off 36 balls before he fell at 61.
After Fazle Mahmud Rabbi's well-crafted 65 off 91, the innings became more stable. He held one end while others chipped in. Important middle-order runs came from Yasir Ali (28 off 42), Nurul Hasan Sohan (24 off 28), and Moin Khan (23 off 32). In the last few overs, Kamrul Islam Rabbi hit 29 runs off of 23 balls, which helped Dhanmondi score a respectable 258/9 in 50 overs.
Three wickets were taken by Mahedi Hasan and Asaduzzaman Payel for Gulshan. Mohammad Elias took two wickets and Nihaduzzaman got one.
As they tried to get to 259, Gulshan's innings had both good and bad times. The openers, Zawad Abrar (22 off 25) and Azizul Hakim Tamim (39 off 87), got things off to a careful start. Litton (25 off 29) tried to speed things up from No. 3 while Tamim's slow innings built pressure.
The big spark came from Alif Hasan Emon, who scored 28 runs off of 19 balls, which turned things around. Without Tamim, the score was 135/4, and things looked bad. But Naeem Islam (68 off 67) and Khalid Hasan (42 off 33) put together a 91-run combination that changed things around.
Khalid missed his fifty, but Naeem made sure Gulshan could see the finish line. Before Nihaduzzaman (5* off 2) and Moinul Islam (1* off 6) sealed the win with two balls to spare, Mohammad Elias (23 off 25) scored some important runs in the lower order.
Their bowlers fought hard. Anamul Haque Anam, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, and Moin Khan all got two wickets, and Maruf Mridha and Sunzamul Islam each got one.
