Bangladesh suffered a heavy defeat against the West Indies in the first Test in Antigua, losing by 201 runs. Struggles with the bat saw the Tigers unable to mount a meaningful fightback, and the match ended in the first session of Day 5 with minimal resistance from the visitors.
While West Indies skipper celebrated their win, Bangladesh’s stand-in captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz couldn’t hide his disappointment. However, he praised the standout performance of pacer Taskin Ahmed, who claimed six wickets in a career-best effort.

Taskin’s fiery pace dismantled the West Indies batting lineup in the second innings, giving Bangladesh their only highlight of the match. Speaking after the game, Miraz lauded his bowlers while expressing frustration with the team’s batting failures.

“I think we bowled really well. Taskin took six wickets, which was brilliant,” said Miraz during the post-match presentation. “However, after taking seven wickets, they built a crucial partnership that cost us the match. We didn’t bat well in this game. We made some mistakes, but that happens. We hope to bounce back strongly in the next match.”

Despite the defeat, Miraz remains optimistic about the team’s chances in the second Test. He added, “We know where we went wrong and will discuss it among ourselves. We have a strong pace attack that bowled well, and Taijul Islam also did a great job in the first innings. I am happy with their performances.”

The win gives West Indies a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series. The second Test is set to begin on November 30 in Jamaica, where Bangladesh will aim to turn the series around.
