Former New Zealand cricketer and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Daniel Vettori has brushed aside the buzz around bat size inspections during IPL 2025 saying it's nothing new and doesn’t really affect the game.

The BCCI’s new initiative to inspect bats using a size gauge during matches has drawn a lot of attention recently. The process officially kicked off during the RR vs RCB and DC vs MI matches with a picture of MI skipper Hardik Pandya’s bat being checked going viral.
When asked about this new on-field routine, Vettori responded with a laugh, saying: “I wish they had checked the bats when I was playing."
He quickly added that such checks are fairly common and players are already aware of the regulations:
“No, I don’t think it makes any difference. The guys get tested regularly. The umpires go through the dressing rooms a lot of the time, so guys know their bats are compliant. It’s just a quick one-second check, and everyone moves on."
The former Kiwi all-rounder also spoke about how bats have evolved in recent years:
“The way bats have been able to get bigger without an increase in weight that’s a skill of the manufacturers. It’s just part of the evolution of the game. Everyone seems to enjoy sixes and fours, so I don’t think we’re going to see a reduction in bat size." He added.
Vettori emphasized that these developments don’t bother him and are simply part of modern-day cricket.
