The IPL 2025 clash between Axar Patel-led Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rishabh Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) was a nail-biter! DC edged past LSG by just one wicket in a high-scoring thriller at Visakhapatnam on March 24.

Batting first LSG put up a solid 209/8, thanks to Southpaw Nicholas Pooran’s explosive 75 off 30 balls and Mitchell Marsh’s 72 off 36. Their powerful hitting had LSG on course for a massive total but DC’s bowlers fought back with Australian Player Mitchell Starc and Indian Spinner Kuldeep Yadav grabbing key wickets.
DC’s chase was shaky collapsing to 65/5 early on. But debutant Vipraj Nigam’s fiery 39 off 15 balls gave them hope before Ashutosh Sharma stole the show. His unbeaten 66 off 31 sealed the deal with a match-winning six off Shahbaz Ahmed in the final over. Meanwhile Rishabh Pant’s captaincy debut for LSG didn’t go as planned as he got out for a duck. KL Rahul was absent due to personal reasons.
Now, let’s see what the players had to say after this epic match in Post-Match Reactions
Ashutosh Sharma, Player of the Match : "I learned from last season. Missed finishing games a couple of times, so I worked on it all year. I believed that if I stayed till the last over, anything was possible. Credit to Vipraj, he stayed calm under pressure. I told him to keep hitting. This award is for my mentor, Shikhar paaji."
Axar Patel, Winning Captain DC : "Get used to it! This is how things will go under my captaincy—ups and downs. Now that we won, no one will question why I gave that over to Stubbs! Early on, it felt like they could reach 240, but we pulled things back. We dropped some catches, but in the end, we fought hard. Vipraj Nigam showed his potential today."
Rishabh Pant, losing captain LSG : "Our top order did well, and I think we had a good score. We are taking positives from every match and looking to improve. We got early wickets, but the pitch was great for batting. They built strong partnerships—one with Stubbs and Ashutosh, and another with Vipraj Nigam, who played brilliantly and took the game away from us. There was enough for the bowlers, but we could have done better with the basics. Luck plays a role in cricket. If Mohit’s ball had missed the pads, we had a stumping chance, but that’s how the game works. We need to focus on playing better cricket."
