The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly gearing up to release its central contracts for the 2025-26 season with some notable changes on the horizon. According to Dainik Jagran the list is likely to be revealed around March 30 and it could see the introduction of new players into the central contracts system.

As per reports a key meeting is set for March 29 in Guwahati where BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia will finalize the contracts. In addition to the central contracts the squad for the upcoming Test series against England National Cricket Team scheduled post-IPL will also be discussed. The meeting will address who may potentially become the future Test captain as part of India’s long-term planning.

One of the significant updates is that experienced batter Shreyas Iyer is expected to regain his central contract after missing out last year. Iyer has impressed with his recent performances including 243 runs in the ICC Champions Trophy at an average of 48.60, reaffirming his value to the team. “Shreyas is set to regain his contract, and it will be in a top category," a source told Times of India (TOI).

However the central contract renewals for key players like Captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja are still under review. Despite all three having retired from T20Is reports suggest they may still retain their spots in the prestigious A-Plus category which is typically reserved for all-format players.

Additionally, some emerging names are set to join the list. Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana, and Abhishek Sharma are expected to be included in Group C. This group typically comprises players who are expected to play at least three Tests, eight ODIs, or ten T20Is during the contract assessment period.

The final decisions will be watched closely as last year’s central contract list had raised eyebrows particularly with the exclusion of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan. The outcome of the upcoming meeting will shape the future of Indian cricket’s player pool and could also hint at long-term leadership changes.
