Pakistan's fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has been one of the integral players of the national cricket team in recent years. Ever since making his debut for the team, he quickly rose through the ranks by performing well on a consistent basis.

He has taken 105 wickets in Tests, 102 wickets in ODIs and 64 wickets in T20Is, making him one of the most promising young pacers in international cricket.

During the recently concluded game between Pakistan and Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Shaheen Shah Afridi etched his name into record books after he became the fastest bowler to reach 100 wickets in One-Day Internationals as he achieved the feat in just 51 games.

More importantly, he was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan against Bangladesh as he took three wickets to his name, giving away just 23 runs in 9 overs. He also bowled a maiden over and maintained an impressive economy rate of 2.60.

“Breaking records is a part of the game, and I’m delighted that we’ve made history for Pakistan,” Shaheen Shah Afridi told Geo Sports. Furthermore, he also opened up on the influence of Shahid Afridi in his cricketing venture. He stated that he looks up to Shahid Afridi as his idol and added that he plays cricket like him. 

“I look up to Shahid Afridi as my hero, and I strive to play cricket like him. He always shares valuable tips with us,” he added. After losing four straight games in ICC ODI World Cup 2023, Pakistan churned out a win over Bangladesh.

After the win over Bangladesh, Shaheen Afridi said, "Our goal remains to be among the top four teams. Today, our focus was on wrapping up the match swiftly and boosting our net run rate. As a team, our recent performances haven’t been up to par. We made some costly errors and dropped catches. Better fielding could have improved our results."
