After a 15-month ICC ban, Nasir Hossain is finally back to playing competitive cricket. He was once seen as the next big thing in Bangladesh cricket.  Nasir's return has already started talks, both for his honesty off the pitch and for his sharp off-spin. He is known for his electric fielding, sharp off-spin, and ability to finish games with the bat.

Nasir played for Rupganj Tigers in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) when he got back and helped the team to a big win.  When he talked to the reporters after the game, he was completely honest about his problems, his anger, and his plans for the future.

Nasir didn’t shy away from admitting the pain of being away from the game. "Honestly, I think I’m unlucky,” he said, half-laughing. “The very next day after my ban ended, there was a match. That’s why I played. I had offers from other teams too, but I chose Rupganj because I felt they valued me—not just as a backup option.”

He expressed frustration about missing two BPL seasons and two DPL seasons due to the ban, which he said disrupted his momentum, "If I had missed just one season, maybe I could’ve recovered. But missing two was tough."

Once a regular for the Bangladesh national team, Nasir now finds himself far from the selectors’ radar. Despite that, his belief in returning hasn’t wavered. “Everyone plays cricket with the dream of representing the national team. I still dream. If I perform, I believe I’ll get the chance—if performances are fairly valued.”

He also took a veiled shot at the selection process, “When I performed well for Dhaka Dominators in the BPL, I wasn’t called up to the A team or even for practice matches. So how do you get into the national team?”

Nasir added that selector bias could ruin careers. "If selectors stay for 9–10 years, someone they don’t like may never get picked. That’s what happened with me, I think."

Returning after a long gap isn’t just mental—it’s physical too. “Yes, I’ve gained a bit of weight. But I’m working on my fitness. As long as there’s demand, I want to play,” he said with a smile.

Asked about life outside cricket during the ban, Nasir shared, “I missed playing, sure, but I was at peace. I spent time with family. I have a child now. I’m grateful. Alhamdulillah, I’m happy.”

Nasir also addressed the media's role in shaping public perception, “When someone’s famous, they also get infamous. That’s how things are. But some media do anything for likes—publish anything. That can hurt families. One news article for views can break a home.”

He added that personal life should stay personal, “You don’t get to tell me how to live my life. Judge me by what I do on the field.”

On being called a star, Nasir responded bluntly, “These ‘star’ labels mean nothing. If you go hungry, no one shows up to feed you. I’m just like everyone else. I have a family, I have a life.”

Despite board changes after the shift in government, Nasir said he hasn’t spoken to anyone from the new BCB setup.

For now, he’s focused on continuing his journey with Rupganj Tigers in the DPL—hoping performances will speak louder than words.
