Niroshan Dickwella picked-up a rapid half-century in the last session of day two to disrupt Bangladesh’s progress against Sri Lanka in the second and last Test match of the series at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy. Bad light forces early stumps after Dickwella's quick fifty

When bad light forced an early close, Sri Lanka had lost five wickets on the day to be 469/6 in 155.5 overs. Dickwell was 64 not out and Ramesh Mendis 22 not out. Pacer Taskin Ahmed picked 3 wickets for Bangladesh making full use of the deteriorating pitch which was offering uneven bounce at times. Two spinners- Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam took the other 2 wickets of the day as the ball was now turning and jumping exaggeratedly on a good batting wicket which was the early indication of deteriorating the pitch. Sri Lanka were very dim in the first session of the day as they added just 43 runs in 26 overs from other day’s play losing 3 wickets. Then in two phases, Bangladesh took four wickets in quick succession. Before lunch break, Angelo Mathews (5) and Dhananjaya de Silva (2) were the victim of Taskin and Taijul consecutively. And after the tea break, there was again Taskin with Mehidy as they picked-up Pathum Nissanka (30) and Oshada Fernando (81) in quick intervals. However, after that, Dickwella and Mendis’ counter-attacking partnership gave Sri Lanka an ease after a hectic day in batting. Dickwella smashed his half-century in just 48 balls. There were only 9.5 overs bowled after the tea interval. So, there will be 15 minutes early starts tomorrow. Dickwella and Mendis will resume the day 3 in batting. Earlier, on the first day, captain Dimuth Karunaratne hit his 12^th ton in Test cricket after getting out off debutant Shoriful Islam’s delivery scoring 118 runs.
