New Zealand is under a bit of pressure after coming to Bangladesh to play the Test series. The Kiwis are trailing 1-0 after losing the first match of the two-match series to Bangladesh by a huge margin of 150 runs. Now New Zealand is waiting to take the field in the Mirpur Test.
New Zealand captain Tim Southee wants to have more confidence in their strengths and style of play ahead of the match. Southee believes that it will be beneficial for the team if everyone in the team can play for a long time in their style.
In the press conference on the eve of the match, Southee said, "First and foremost, obviously a different surface. Again, we're expecting obviously spin-friendly conditions. After the last game, we spoke about being more consistent for longer as a bowling group. And then, obviously, partnerships as a batting unit. We've had a great couple of days of training. So looking forward to getting into another Test match."
Despite the defeat in the Sylhet Test, Southee is not willing to blame the pitch. According to him, such a pitch is expected in such conditions, he and his team took the field by that. He commented on the pitch in Sylhet, "We expected the pitch to be pretty much what it was. It was a pretty good surface, and what we sort of expected in this part of the world. Some of the guys that haven't played in this part of the world would've learned from that. And all the guys have got different methods and different ways to go about it. It's just about trusting that those ways are enough.”
Bangladesh is currently leading the series by 1-0. The second and final Test of the two-match series will be played tomorrow at 9:30 am Bangladesh time.
