Former Pakistan National Cricket Team player Salman Butt has come to the defense of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) amid controversy over the LED floodlights at Gaddafi Stadium.

The debate started after New Zealand National Cricket Team Player Rachin Ravindra suffered a career threatening injury during the first ODI of the tri-series against Pakistan team on February 8.

During the match while attempting a catch Rachin Ravindra missed the ball and it struck him directly on the head causing heavy bleeding. His injury which forced him to leave the field with his face covered in a white towel sparked criticism from several players and analysts. Many blamed the newly installed LED floodlights for impairing his vision during the play.

However Salman Butt has firmly backed the PCB. He believes that the LED floodlights are in excellent condition and are not to blame for the mishap. He stressed that the lights have been recently installed and have already proven their worth in other high-speed scenarios He explained:

"There’s no point trying to make people understand when they don’t want to. It’s irrelevant. These are some of the latest LED lights that have been installed, so these are fine. When New Zealand players hit sixes off deliveries bowled at close to 150 kph, were the lights not working then?"

Salman Butt further commented on the incident by suggesting that the injury was due to a misjudgment rather than any technical fault with the stadium's lighting. He remarked

"A player who was standing 70 meters away failed to take the catch because of his misjudgement. He is a fine fielder, but perhaps his leg slipped, and he got hurt."
