The mix-up started on Tuesday February 25, when Code Cricket tweeted a quote suggesting that Cummins had criticized the ICC for giving India an unfair advantage by letting them play all their matches in Dubai. The post quickly went viral but was later deleted after Cummins clarified the situation on social media.
In response to the misattributed quote, Cummins firmly stated, "I have definitely never said this." The actual comment, where the criticism was made, came from English cricket commentator Jonathan Agnew, not Cummins. Agnew’s original quote read, "You can't pick and choose where you play and where you're not going to play ... It makes a farce of these tournaments."
However, Cummins did admit that India has an advantage playing all their games at one venue. In an interview with Yahoo Australia, Cummins acknowledged that while it’s good for the tournament to continue smoothly, playing in familiar conditions does give India a significant edge.
“I think it’s good in that the tournament can go on, but obviously it does give them (India) a huge advantage playing on the same ground. They already look very strong and they’ve got that obvious benefit of playing all their games there," Cummins was quoted as saying by Yahoo Australia.
