Indian national cricket team champion bowler Jasprit Bumrah will be absent from Mumbai Indians’ upcoming IPL 2025 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 7. The fast bowler who has been undergoing rehabilitation since January due to discomfort in his lower back is reportedly close to making a return but is yet to clear his final fitness test.

Bumrah has already set to missed MI’s match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and remains unavailable for the RCB fixture. The BCCI has mandated a fitness test before he can resume playing and according to reports from ESPNcricinfo, the 31-year-old is currently in the final stages of medical evaluation in Bengaluru.

The Indian pacer last played in January 2025 during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy where he experienced back discomfort in the fifth Test. Since then he has been gradually increasing his bowling workload and is expected to return to action later this month provided he clears the required fitness assessments.

In Bumrah’s absence Mumbai Indians have relied on former New Zealand National Cricket Team pacer Trent Boult and Indian speedster Deepak Chahar who was signed for ₹9.25 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. MI led by Hardik Pandya secured their first win of the season against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) but have won only one of their three matches so far. With a net run rate of +0.309, MI will aim to build momentum and register back-to-back wins as they take on LSG tonight.
