Pakistan has been fined 5% of their match fee for slow over-rate against New Zealand for the second match in a row, having bowled only one over short in the second ODI at Hamilton.
Pakistan encountered a double jolt against New Zealand in the second ODI of the ongoing series. While Pakistan lost the match at Hamilton on Wednesday, April 2, they also incurred a fine from the ICC for having an over-slow over-ratio in the first innings following having batted first after winning the toss. Thus, all members were fined half a percent of their individual match fees for such a breach.
Umpire Jeff Crowe levied the penalty under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which deals with over-ratio offences. The players are fined 5% of their match fee for every over that the team does not bowl within the time allocated. Field umpires Michael Gough and Wayne Knights, third umpire Paul Reiffel, and fourth umpire Chris Brown rejected the charge.
This is the second successive instance of Pakistan being fined for a slow overrate. In the opening ODI against New Zealand in Napier, which was won by the visitors by 73 runs, two overs short of the target were bowled by the team after subtracting time penalties.
They began the series two overs short of their target in the first ODI. The upcoming third match will be crucial for the Men in Green captain, as he may be ruled out of future matches. The Kiwis lead the series 2-0 after their first two wins and ultimately clinched the series.
