England pace bowler Olly Stone will be out until July with a knee injury, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed on Friday.
Stone experienced discomfort during Nottinghamshire's pre-season trip to Abu Dhabi last month, the ECB reported. Scans this week indicated surgery was necessary.
"England and Nottinghamshire fast bowler Olly Stone will be out of cricket for 14 weeks after scans and subsequent surgery this week confirmed a knee injury," the ECB announced.
He will now start rehabilitation, closely working with the ECB and Nottinghamshire medical staff. Stone has played five Tests and ten one-day internationals and is likely to miss the five-match series against India, which starts on June 20.
Stone has picked up 17 Test wickets for England and is on the treatment list along with fellow pacer Mark Wood, who was ruled out at the start of the year.
His injury increases the pressure on England's pacers ahead of the season's restart. Mark Wood has been out for four months following knee surgery, while Wood's Durham teammate Brydon Carse is battling a long-term toe injury. Ben Stokes, England's captain, is also recovering from thigh surgery and hopes to be fit for the Test in Zimbabwe.
