Australian captain Pat Cummins and pacer Josh Hazlewood have been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Australia now have to make four changes to their Champions Trophy squad.
Australia have been dealt with massive blow as their captain Pat Cummins and premier fast bowler Josh Hazlewood out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.All-rounder Mitchell Marsh was out of the squad as he is recovering from his back injury. While Hazlewood has developed a hip problem following earlier hip and calf strains.
"Unfortunately Pat, Josh and Mitch are managing some ongoing injuries and haven’t come up in time for the Champion’s Trophy,," national selection panel chair George Bailey said today.
"While disappointing, it does present a great opportunity for other players to perform for Australia in a world event."
Australia now have to make four changes to their squad. Emerging leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha has been added into the Australia's ODI squad for the two-match Sri Lanka series. Pacer Sean Abbott and and youngster Cooper Connolly are also the potential Inclusions of the squad as they'll stay for the ODI series. Top order explosive batter Jake Fraser-McGurk and premier fast bowler Spencer Johnson too will join the ODI squad.
Either Steve Smith or Travis Head will lead the Aussies in the ICC Champions Trophy.
Australia's first game of the upcoming tournament will be against their arch-rivals England at Lahore on February 22
