West Indies bowlers have struck early on day two after the lower-order batsmen put on a big total against Bangladesh in the first innings of the second Test at Mirpur.

West Indies made 409 runs in 142.2 overs after losing last four wickets for 25 runs before tea. Joshua Da Silva missed out on a memorable maiden hundred as he was undone by Taijul Islam. Da Silva played 187 runs for his 92 runs including 10 fours. He paired up a 118-run seventh wicket stand with pacer Alzarri Joseph, who registered his second highest Test score - 82 off 108. Joseph played aggressive shots as he struck 8 boundaries and 5 over-boundaries. Taijul and Abu Jayed Rahi shared eight wickets between them, four apiece. In reply, Shannon Gabriel made the perfect start for West Indies sending back Soumya Sarkar for a four-ball duck in the first over. In his next over, Gabriel got Najmul Hossain Shanto caught in the slips just after getting hit for a four down the ground. Tamim Iqbal pushed the accelerating button on as he welcomed Rahkeem Cornwall for a six over his head in the second over of the innings. He added 58 with the captain Mominul Haque, who was caught behind off Cornwall for 21. Joseph dismissed Tamim setting up a trap at short mid-wicket. The southpaw left scoring a brisk 52-ball 44 with 5 fours and a six. Mushfiqur Rahim (27* off 61) and Mohammad Mithun (6* off 61) have ended the day on a safer note. Bangladesh are 105/4 in 36 overs at stumps, trailing by 304 runs. Another 105 runs will be needed to avoid a follow-on.
