The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Wednesday 5 October 2022 the three nominees for the September 2022 Men's Player of the Month award.

The three nominees for the award are Pakistani Mohammad Rizwan, Australian all-rounder Cameron Green And Indian spinner Axar Patel.

Rizwan, the No. 1 T20I batter in the men's ICC player rankings, continued to dominate the game's shortest format in 2022 after having a bumper in 2021 when he was the only hitter to hit over 1000 runs in a calendar year.

Let's take a detailed look at the shortlisted players' performances over the past month.

Mohammad Rizwan (Pakistan)

The No: 1 T20I batter in the MRF Tires ICC Men's Player Rankings continued its dominance in the shortest format of the game, earning its name on the September Player of the Month shortlist.

In the 10 games he played last month, Rizwan hit seven fifties. His month started with two 70+ results against Hong Kong and India at the Asian Cup. He finished the tournament with another fifty and as the top run scorer, but Pakistan missed the final hurdle.

In the first five T20Is of the seven-game series against England, he scored four goals from 60+ to help his side lead 3-2. Despite playing a game fewer, he still finished the streak as the top run scorer with 316 runs at an average of 63.20 while going at 138.60.

Axar Patel (India)

The series between India and Australia was dominated by batsmen, but Axar Patel was the only bowler to stand out for both his wicket-taking ability and his ability to contain runs.

In the game where Australia managed to chase 209, Patel was India's top bowler by a mile with numbers of 3/17 in four overs. In the rain-interrupted eight-over affair in the second match, he gave away just 13 runs in two overs while scalping the big wickets of Glenn Maxwell and Tim David.

In the final game he broke two crucial partnerships with wickets of Aaron Finch and Josh Inglis before removing the dangerous Matthew Wade. With just 6.30 runs and overs in the three games against Australia, Axar ended a streak in which the second-highest wicket-taker won just three wickets with eight wickets.

Axar continued his form in the series against South Africa, giving away just 16 runs in four overs in the first T20I at Thiruvananthapuram.

Cameron Green (Australia)

In Cameron Green's great month of September, fans and pundits alike have clamored for him to be a part of Australia's T20 World Cup squad.

In the first ODI against New Zealand, Australia stared at the water at 44/5 and chased 233 as he played at 89* and struggled through spasms that saw the hosts win by two wickets. In the next game he hit a quick 25* with 12 balls and also picked up two wickets as Australia whitewashed their Trans-Tasman rivals.

In the absence of several first-team players, Cameron Green found a place in Australia's eleven in the T20I series against India and was even promoted to open batting. Chasing 209, he hit a stunning 61 from 30 peppered with eight fours and four sixes that provided the platform for Australia to complete a memorable chase and take a 1-0 lead.

Green was even more destructive in the final game, smashing Indian bowlers to bits en route to his 21-ball 52 and also setting the record for scoring the second-fastest fifty by an Australian in T20Is.
