Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has commented on Gautam Gambhir's new role as head coach of the Indian national cricket team. Afridi expressed optimism about Gambhir's appointment, praising his simple and straightforward approach.

On July 10, the BCCI appointed Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team, following Rahul Dravid’s successful tenure that ended with India winning the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean.

Afridi, speaking on Star Sports, stated, “This new opportunity is promising. It will be interesting to see how he capitalizes on it. Based on the many interviews I’ve seen, he comes across as articulate and positive in his speech. He also seems bluntly direct in his communication style.”

Furthermore, South African speed star Dale Steyn also welcomed Gambhir's appointment, appreciating his aggressive approach to the game. Steyn shared his admiration for Gambhir’s tenacity, noting that it will bring a unique dynamic to the Indian dressing room.

"I'm a big fan of Gautam Gambhir. I love his aggression. He's one of the few Indians I ever played against who came back at you, and I like that. I think he's going to take that into the dressing room with guys like Virat and some of the other senior players who might not play as big a part anymore. I'm not too sure," Steyn told Star Sports.
