Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell wowed the crowd with a breathtaking boundary catch during the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 clash between Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars at the Gabba on Wednesday, January 1. Maxwell’s acrobatic effort came in the 17th over, helping dismiss Brisbane Heat’s Will Prestwidge in a crucial moment of the match.
The stunning catch unfolded on the very first ball of the 17th over, bowled by Daniel Lawrence. Prestwidge struck a powerful shot straight down the ground, targeting the long-off boundary. The ball seemed destined for a boundary, but Maxwell, stationed at long-off, had other plans.
Maxwell sprinted to his right, leaped into the air, and grabbed the ball with one hand. As his momentum carried him over the boundary, Maxwell smartly parried the ball back into play before landing outside the ropes. He then stepped back inside the field of play and completed the catch with composure. After a quick review, the TV umpire confirmed the catch was clean, sending Prestwidge back to the pavilion.

This moment not only showcased Maxwell’s incredible athleticism but also helped Melbourne Stars maintain control over the game, as Brisbane Heat struggled to build partnerships, losing wickets regularly to slump to 68/5.
Despite their early struggles, Max Bryant stood tall for the Heat, playing a sensational knock of 77 off 48 balls*, which included 4 fours and 6 sixes. His unbeaten half-century lifted Brisbane Heat to a competitive total of 149.
