The much-anticipated Test series between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe is coming up soon, and all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has expressed his confidence and called for the team to work together.  Miraz talked with confidence after a great game in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) about the need for a mix of youth and experience, especially since some older players have quit the national team.

There will be two Tests between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in April.  The first Test starts in Sylhet on April 20, 2025, and the second one starts in Chattogram on April 28, 2025. 

Since the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has said they want to give young players more chances, this series is a big chance to shape the future of the team.

When asked about the upcoming challenge, Mehidy highlighted the importance of team-wide accountability. "In international cricket, every match is a challenge—no matter who you're playing against. Whether it’s a big team or a smaller one, your performance is always judged on a global scale,” Miraz told reporters on Sunday (April 6) following his DPL performance.

He also reflected on past successes achieved without star players, saying, "When we won that match in the West Indies, several seniors were absent. Young players stepped up. The same could happen again. It’s not just about getting a chance; it’s about making it count."

Senior players like Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim are leaving the longest version, which leaves a clear leadership gap.  But Miraz thinks this is a normal change and that the younger group needs to step up and take charge now.

“Seniors have retired, and that opens doors for emerging talents. But with that comes responsibility,” said Miraz. “We have to take this responsibility gradually. Those of us in the team must now perform and help take Bangladesh to the next level. These are the series where we learn, improve, and build something better.”
