Jasprit Bumrah to lead India in absence of Rohit Sharma in the first Test against Australia
India's captain Rohit Sharma has stayed back at home for the birth of his second child. But he'll join team India ahead of the second Test in Adelaide, which is set to be played in Pink-ball, starting on December 4.

India's pace ace Jasprit Bumrah is set to lead team India in absence of Rohit Sharma in the first Test against Australia, which begins from Friday, November 22 at Optus Stadium, Perth.
India's captain Rohit Sharma has stayed back at home for the birth of his second child. But he'll join team India ahead of the second Test in Adelaide, which is set to be played in Pink-ball, starting on December 4. Rohit also has confirmed to BCCI that he will be available for the two-day pink-ball warm-up game against the Australian Prime Minister's XI before the day-night Test at Adelaide Oval.
And India's pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah will lead them in the Border-Gavaskar Series opener. Bumrah led India in one Test previously, during the fifth Test of India's 2021-22 tour of England at Edgbaston.
Young prodigy Shubman Gill was set to open in absence of Rohit Sharma, but he too had injury scar which ruled him out of the Perth Test.
Now India is left with Abhimanyu Easwaran and KL Rahul to open the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal. Apart from Abhimanyu and Rahul, India will have another top-order candidate in Devdutt Padikkal.
This will be India's first overseas Test tour under head coach Gautam Gambhir.
