Former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria has spoken out to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after he lodged an official complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) over the behavior of spectators towards his players during the India vs Pakistan 2023 World Cup match at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Citing a few examples, he said PCB needs to look at what Pakistan did wrong instead of finding fault in others.
The Babar Azam-led team suffered a seven-wicket defeat at the Narendra Modi Stadium on October 14. Videos circulating on social media showed Pakistan players being subjected to religious chants, prompting the cricket board to lodge a complaint with the global cricket body.
Don’t Find Faults in Others – Danish Kaneria
Denmark's Kaneria questioned the actions of various people, including comments made by Pakistani journalist Zainab Abbas and team director Mickey Arthur. Kaneria mentioned that Mohammad Rizwan performed namaz on the field.
“Who asked Pakistani journalist Zainab Abbas to speak out against India and Hindus? Who asked Mickey Arthur to call the ICC event a BCCI event? Who asked Rizwan to perform namaz in the playground? Don’t find fault in others,” Kaneria wrote.
PCB formally complains to the ICC
On Tuesday, October 17, PCB announced on its official social media account that it had formally lodged a complaint with the ICC. This complaint related to what the PCB described as inappropriate behavior towards the Pakistan team during the India vs Pakistan match, as well as concerns about visa-related delays for Pakistani journalists and the lack of a defined visa policy for Pakistan's cricket fans.
“The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lodged another formal protest with the ICC over delays in issuing visas to Pakistani journalists and lack of a visa policy for Pakistani fans for the ongoing 2023 World Cup. The PCB has also lodged a complaint regarding inappropriate behavior targeted at the Pakistan team during the India vs Pakistan match on October 14, 2023,” PCB mentioned in their tweet.
