He led his team to an eight-wicket win, scoring an impressive 78 runs. However, his comeback was marred by an unfortunate incident. While executing a quick single, a throw from the field hit him directly on his left glove, causing immediate pain and swelling.

In a pre-match press conference, Tom Latham addressed the status of key players Lockie Ferguson, Kane Williamson and Mark Chapman. Latham expressed hope that Ferguson would be fit and available for selection for the upcoming game.

“Yes, like I said, there’s Lockie, Kane and Mark Chapman. Of course, hopefully we'll get a bit of work done today and then we'll see how they do from a selection point of view. But yeah, obviously Lockie had a bit of a hamstring problem in the last game so we're keeping our fingers crossed that he'll be fine tomorrow," Latham said.

The New Zealand team started the ongoing marquee tournament with four consecutive wins. However, they failed to gain further momentum and suffered defeats against India and Australia respectively. They must win at least two games to advance to the semi-finals.
