In response, Australia got off to a poor start. They were 47 for 3 after losing the wickets of David Warner, Mitchell Marsh and Steve Smith. However, Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne did not allow India to get any further into the game. The duo then combined to score a massive 192 runs, sealing the game for their team.
When Mohammed Siraj dismissed Head to finally break the partnership, Australia needed just two runs in more than seven overs. Glenn Maxwell then scored the winning score and ensured his team a memorable triumph. Head was the top scorer for Australia, scoring 137 off 120 balls with the help of 15 fours and 4 sixes, while Labuschagne remained unbeaten with 58 off 110 balls.
Shortly after the finale ended, Babar Azam reacted on Instagram. The former Pakistan captain posted a story congratulating Australia and wrote: “Congratulations @CricketAus! What a confident performance in the final.”
Meanwhile, Babar Azam recently resigned as captain of Pakistan in all three formats following his team's dismal performance in the World Cup. Pakistan once again failed to make it to the semi-finals, having managed just 4 wins in 9 matches.
