Batting coach Kieron Pollard stated that the Mumbai Indians (MI) will not be resting star India pacer Jasprit Bumrah in preparation for the T20 World Cup, despite the fact that the team is not in the playoff hunt for the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Given their current position near the bottom of the IPL standings, MI's elimination from the playoffs appears imminent. The team's supporters are now demanding that Jasprit Bumrah and other important players take a rest in preparation for the forthcoming T20 World Cup.
"I certainly haven't had any discussions about that," Pollard said when asked about Bumrah’s break. "I don't think that's my role and function at this point in time. But let's see what happens. We are all here to play an entire IPL. Sometimes when we think too far ahead of different things, thinking about World Cups, all these things could affect performances even from before the team was selected.
"For us and in our camp, the most important thing is finishing off the IPL and let's see what happens after that. When he leaves the IPL and he goes into the Indian team, I think that's where that concession will take place."
However, Mumbai defeated Hyderabad by 7 wickets on Monday when Suryakumar Yadav (102 not out) hit his second IPL century to help his team chase down a 174-run mark with 16 balls remaining. Bumrah took 1 wicket in the match.
