Joe Root, England's former Test captain, has given strong support for the current white-ball skipper, Jos Buttler, as England battles for a position in the T20 World Cup Super 8 in 2024. The team's recent 36-run setback against Australia on Saturday has put them in a position of risk, increasing the pressure on Buttler and head coach Matthew Mott.

The setback against Australia, along with a washed-out game, has put the defending T20 World Cup champions in a difficult situation. This follows a dismal performance in last year's 50-over World Cup, when England failed to defend their title successfully.

Despite the setbacks, Joe Root remains optimistic about England's chances in the tournament. He believes that the team, under Buttler's leadership, still has a strong opportunity to bounce back and make it to the knockout stages.

As quoted by Sky Sports, the former captain in support of Buttler stated, "Jos is one of my good friends. I think he's a brilliant captain, so I don't think there's any question.”

"When it's all laid out and they've got their backs to the wall, which they have in this situation now, is when they play their best cricket. "It could really bring the best out of them, so I've got no worries whatsoever.”

He further added "If they go out and do what they all know that they're capable of doing, we'll be finding ourselves in the Super 8s and the back-end of the tournament where it really matters to play our best stuff. I think they'll be absolutely fine, they've got a wonderful squad of players. They know exactly what they need to do"
