Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has identified two key players for the Indian cricket team—Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah—as crucial factors in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. According to Watson, these two stars could pose major challenges for the Pat Cummins-led current world test champion Australian side when they face India later this year.
Speaking about Pant’s influence, Watson expressed high praise for the wicketkeeper-batter, particularly recalling his remarkable performances in Australia's last two series. “One is Rishabh Pant. He’s got great memories of the last tour he had from a batting perspective in Australia. The innings that he played at the Gabba were something very special,” Watson said.
Pant, who has been through tough times recently, is expected to make a big impact in the upcoming series. Watson backed him to bounce back stronger, adding, “Knowing that he’s come through his challenges in the last couple of years to be able to come back as an even better player than what he left off, I think he’s going to have a big series."
Watson also spoke highly of India's pace spearhead the no.1 test cricket Bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who has been a dominant force in all conditions but particularly excels in Australian conditions. “Bumrah is someone who in Australian conditions, in all conditions he’s so good. His ability to take wickets and get batters out will be very effective in Australia as well. So those two guys, if they have big series, they can really provide Australia with some big challenges,” Watson explained.
With Mohammed Shami expected to return from injury, Bumrah will lead India’s attack as they aim to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.Bumrah has an impressive record in Australia, with 32 wickets in seven Tests at an average of 21.25.
