Sylhet Strikers have won their second match also registering the third-highest run-chase in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) history on Saturday (January 7). They beat Fortune Barishal by 6 wickets at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
Chasing a big target of 195 runs, Sylhet lost Colin Ackermann in the first over as the Dutch batter was run-out for 1 run. Then, in-form opener Najmul Hossain Shanto and young Towhid Hridoy kept the run chase in control with a match-winning 101-run partnership for the second wicket in just 11.2 overs. Shanto was run-out just before two runs away from his half-century. He played 40 balls in his innings and hit 5 fours and a six. On the other hand, Hridoy picked up a half-century. He scored 55 runs off just 34 balls with 7 fours and a six.
After their dismissal, Zakir Hasan accelerated the run-chase with 43-run innings from just 18 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes. Then, Mushfiqur Rahim (23* off 11 balls) and Thisara Perera (20* off 9 balls) finished off the chase with 6 balls in hand.
Earlier, Barishal started off very well as openers- Chaturanga de Silva and Anamul Haque Bijoy made a 67-run partnership in opening in 7.2 overs. Then, Shakib Al Hasan carried the momentum and played a stormy innings of 67 runs off just 32 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes which gave Barishal a big total of 194 runs in 20 overs losing 7 wickets.
Chaturanga scored 36 runs off 25 balls and Bijoy scored 29 runs off 21 balls. Pacer Mashrafe Bin Mortaza was the most successful bowler for Sylhet with 3 wickets.
