A bunch of Bangladeshi cricketers have been called up to the Lankan Premier League (LPL) this year. However, not everyone is getting regular opportunities in the XI. Today Litton Das and Shoriful Islam made their debut in the same match. There is also Shakib Al Hasan; That is, 3 cricketers of Bangladesh in one match. Shakib-Litton had the last laugh in the last match of the league stage of the fourth season of LPL.
Galle Titans captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and decided to field first in Colombo. Colombo struggles from the beginning. Shakib's tight bowling with Tabraiz Shamsi’s spin and Lahiru Kumara’s pace made the Colombo batter’s life harder in the match. South Africa spinner Shamsi took 4 wickets at the cost of 20 runs by bowling 4 overs. Shakib was more frugal, conceding just 8 runs in 3.4 overs. Litton Das behind the wicket also missed the opportunity which should have Shakib’s wicket.
On a day of batting failure, Babar Azam’s Colombo Strikers were bowled out for just 74 runs in 15.4 overs. None of the batters could touch the 15-run mark. Colombo set the record for the lowest runs scored in the LPL on the day of their elimination from the tournament.
In reply, Galle first fell in front of Bangladesh pacer Shoriful. Shariful gave away 7 runs in the first over. In the second over, Galle lost opener Bhanuka Rajapaksa, then Litton came to the crease. But he could not benefit at all. Facing 4 balls, he scored just 1 run. He was dismissed by Jeffrey Vandersay. Galle were also under pressure after losing Litton. Shakib was given LBW on the very next ball but survived with taking the review.
Because the target was small, Galle got a chance to play cautiously. A win in just 8.3 gave them a chance to finish the league stage at 2nd place in the points table. With Lasith Croospulle, Shakib remained unbeaten in achieving that goal. In the end, Galle reached the port of victory with 8 wickets and 11.3 overs in hand. Croospulle scored 42 off 25 balls and Shakib remained unbeaten on 17 off 15 balls.
The match was 'do or die' for both teams. As Shakib-Litton made it to the last four with an easy win, Shoriful’s Colombo were eliminated from the tournament. By placing in the top two, Galle will get two chances to reach the finals.
