With heavy fog and smog forecast in early January, the second Test between Pakistan and New Zealand from Multan is likely to be shifted.

The second test of the upcoming historic series between Pakistan and New Zealand is likely to be moved here given the expected unsuitable weather in Multan, sources claimed.

According to the details, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) proposed New Zealand Cricket (NZC) to change the venue for the second Test and is yet to receive the touring board nod.

Multan recently held the second test between Pakistan and England, there were air quality problems. The arrival of both teams in Multan was also delayed by four hours due to fog and visibility issues.

However, when the game started at 10 a.m. local time, the sun burned away most of the fog and there were no delays on that front.

It is important to mention that on the way back from Multan to Karachi, the English team also experienced a flight delay due to the thick smog in the aforementioned city.

Meanwhile, Karachi is already poised to host the first Test of the home series against New Zealand, the first after a 32-year hiatus.

Lahore cannot be an alternative venue for the same reason, with even worse visibility and air quality comparable to the worst in the world. As of Friday, Lahore's AQI was 500, according to IQAir. That's about 25 times above the acceptable level. Forget about visibility, playing cricket could also be hazardous to your health.

This effectively leaves Karachi and Rawalpindi as the only realistic options as facilities in the rest of the country are not equipped to host Test cricket in such a short-term manner.

The three-game ODI series that follows the Tests will also be held in Karachi. Moving the second test there would mean the entire tour takes place in one city.
