Bangladesh pace bowling all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin is going to Qatar to get treatment for injury. The battle for his recovery will begin once he has completed his treatment and returned home. However, it is uncertain at this point whether or not he will still be in contention for a spot on the ODI World Cup team by that time.
Saifuddin has not been with the national team for a long time for injury problems. Meanwhile, the selection panel has also announced the camp team for the Asia Cup. The cricketers have already given the fitness test. Saifuddin was them on TV.
Before leaving for Qatar, Saifuddin said that he has to undergo treatment where friends and younger brothers are giving fitness tests.
“Of course. Why don't I feel bad! Here all our colleagues, friends, and younger brothers are doing camp, giving fitness tests, and I’m watching them through media. It must feel bad. I am a field player but I can not come to the field. But when I come here, I pass the time by talking with them. When I recover, InshaAllah, I will be a part of them again,” Saifuddin said.
The Asia Cup starts this month. Saifuddin also played in the Asia Cup last year. Although he is not with the team this year, this pace all-rounder is seeing the possibility of doing better this year. Especially recently, the form of the Bangladesh team is also quite good. However, he said that he will miss experienced cricketer Tamim Iqbal.
"MashaAllah. We have played very well in the last two T20I series. We defeated Afghanistan, England and Ireland. We were in a very good flow. We lost the ODI series with Afghanistan but still, I think our team is in the best rhythm. Alhamdulillah,” Saifuddin added.
“Though Tamim Bhai, a very experienced batter. We will miss him in the Asia Cup. His contribution is actually for 10-15 years... We who play or you are journalists, we all see. Still, the team will really miss him. Still, I’m optimistic. Especially Towhid Hridoy, and those who are young, are in very good rhythm. They are leading the team from the front. We have always performed well in the Asia Cup.”
After recovery, Saifuddin's comeback will be challenging under the new coach Chandika Hathurusingha. That's why he wants to return to practice after fully recovering.
"Honestly, back on the field, I will try with 100 percent to get back into the old rhythm. Whether to return to the national team or not, it may depend on the selectors or the coaches. No games now though. So let's see. I have to get well and return to the field and practice with full force. The rest is in God's hands,” Saifuddin further said.
