Australia will be without the services of star all-rounder Mitchell Marsh for their much-anticipated ODI World Cup 2023 match against England on Saturday, November 4, at the massive Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
According to a report, there is no timetable for the star all-rounder's return to India. Mitchell Marsh traveled home on Thursday (November 2) for personal reasons and will not take part in the World Cup indefinitely.
“A timetable for his return to the squad is yet to be confirmed,” Cricket Australia said in a statement.
There is currently little clarity on his return date and whether Australia would name a replacement for the all-rounder. The loss of Mitchell Marsh would be a huge blow to Australia, who will also be without Glenn Maxwell for their upcoming game against England.
Maxwell was ruled out of the upcoming game after suffering a concussion in a golf cart accident. He reportedly slipped and fell from the back of the cart after losing his footing and suffered the head injury that sidelined him for a week.
Australia hopes the recent setbacks do not derail its election campaign. The five-time world champion started his season with two defeats before getting his championship campaign back on track with four consecutive wins.
Both Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh played key roles in the winning run. While Marsh scored a stunning century in the 62-run win over Pakistan, Maxwell scored a record 40 balls against the Netherlands. Australia are currently third in the points table and a win over arch-rivals England would all but secure their place in the semi-finals.
