Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Chairman Najam Sethi has claimed that the digital media ratings of the eighth edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 were higher than those of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Chairman Najam Sethi has revealed that the Pakistan Super League's eighth season has performed better than the cash rich IPL on digital media.
At a press conference ahead of the HBL PSL 8 finals at Gaddafi Stadium here on Saturday, he said that this year's HBL PSL 8 has achieved 150 rating points, compared to the 130 of IPL 2022.
He hailed cricket fans for the success of HBL PSL Season 8 and acknowledged that the league could not thrive without the support of die-hard fans.
Najam Sethi said that during the HBL PSL 8 80 percent attendance was recorded, adding that he was grateful to the spectators who showed up in large numbers at the stadiums in Lahore, Karachi, Multan and Rawalpindi.
The chairman of the management committee, who will be heading to Dubai to attend ICC and ACC meetings, said the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) has given many stars to both Pakistani and world cricket over the past eight years.
Najam Sethi added that HBL PSL gave a chance to many cricketers who didn't stand a chance in other leagues or their national teams and these players rose to stardom.
"Record audience and ticket sales. Let's talk digital. PSL was only halfway through so I asked about our digital rating. The Najam Sethi show used to have a 0.5 rating on TV while PSL has a rating of over 11 So it would be 18 or 20 when it's done," Sethi said.
“Over 150 million people watched it digitally. It's no small thing. At the same time, the digital valuation of IPL was 130 million and PSL more than 150 million. So this is a great achievement for Pakistan,” he added.
