The first match of the two-match Test series between host Bangladesh and visiting Sri Lanka starts on Sunday (May 15). The match will start in Chattogram at 10 am Bangladesh time.
The venue of this match is Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. Bangladesh have never beaten Sri Lanka in Tests on home soil. For the first time, the Tigers are desperate to win with the goal of series victory at the home venue.
However, the Sri Lankans are also looking for victory to bring relief to the troubled country on various issues. This will be Chris Silverwood’s first assignment as a head coach of Sri Lankan team.
Though Chattogram's sporting wicket does not provide many facilities for the bowlers, both the teams are confident of getting results.
Bangladesh have a strong chance to play with two pacers and two spinners in this match. In that case, Nayeem Hasan or Taijul Islam can be seen in charge of the spin department along with Shakib Al Hasan. Two fast bowlers Ebadot Hossain and Khaled Ahmed are in contention to play the match. Besides, there is a strong possibility that Mosaddek Hossain will get a chance in the XI. But they will miss the service of Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who are out due to injury.
Sri Lanka will field two spinners- Lasith Embuldeniya and Praveen Jayawickrama alongside left-arm pacer Vishwa Fernando and the other slot of the pacer is a tie between Kasun Rajitha and Asitha Fernando.
Probable XI:
Bangladesh: Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mominul Haque (c), Mushfiqur Rahim, Liton Das (wk), Shakib Al Hasan, Mosaddek Hossain, Nayeem Hasan/Taijul Islam, Khaled Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain
