Chennai Super Kings (CSK) started their IPL 2025 journey with a thrilling four-wicket victory against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on March 23. Despite some tense moments in the chase CSK maintained their composure to chase down MI’s total of 155/9 with five balls to spare.

MI’s innings was rattled by CSK’s bowling attack, with Noor Ahmad taking center stage on his IPL debut, claiming an impressive four-wicket haul (4/18). Khaleel Ahmed provided strong support, picking up three wickets for 29 runs. Their combined efforts restricted MI to a modest total of 155/9. Despite brief resistance from Tilak Varma (31) and stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav (29), MI struggled to gain momentum. A late cameo by former CSK player Deepak Chahar (28 off 15) gave MI a fighting chance but wasn’t enough to put them in a commanding position.

CSK’s chase got off to a flying start with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad smashing a rapid 53 off just 26 balls. However, MI’s debutant Vignesh Puthur, who impressed with 3 wickets triggered a mid-innings collapse. Despite this Blackcaps player Rachin Ravindra’s unbeaten 59 off 45 balls steadied the ship guiding CSK to victory in the final overs. His calm approach was crucial as CSK held their nerve to finish the game at 156/6.

In a lighter moment after the match former CSK skipper MS Dhoni was seen sharing a playful exchange with former CSK teammate Deepak Chahar during the post-match handshake. Dhoni was spotted playfully hitting Chahar with a bat and the lighthearted moment quickly went viral on social media. Their camaraderie was evident, showing the close bond they still share despite playing for opposing teams.
