Indian batting stalwart Virat Kohli is unlikely to play the warm-up match against Bangladesh. He was absent in the first batch of Indian players which departed for the United States Of America on Saturday for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, commences from first June.
Virat Kohli is the orange cap winner of IPL 2024.
According Indian Express, Kohli extended his period of break post RCB's heartbreaking IPL 2024 exit after losing to Rajasthan Royals in the eliminator, and hence BCCI scheduled his visa appointment for a later date. And this is why, Virat Kohli is likely to miss the warm-up match against Bangladesh in New York on June first.
“Kohli had informed us way beforehand that he will be joining the team late and that is why the BCCI has kept his visa appointment for a later date. He is expected to fly out to New York in the early morning of May 30th. The BCCI has agreed to his request,” a BCCI official told the newspaper.
The first batch which departed India for the USA was led by their captain Rohit Sharma and their coach Rahul Dravid. Other players in the travelling contingent included Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel among others.
India have been clubbed in the Group A, along with their arch-rivals Pakistan, co-hosts USA, Canada and Ireland. India outset their T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland on June 5 at the newly constructed Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
