Right when Mohammedan Sporting Club looked like they were about to win the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), there was trouble.  Two games have been taken away from captain Towhid Hridoy because he got angry with match officials during a big game against rivals Abahani Limited.  What began as a tense appeal on the field turned into a heated argument after the game, which led to more punishments.

The drama took place at Mirpur's Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium while Abahani was batting.  In the seventh over, pacer Ebadot Hossain hit Mohammad Mithun on the pads, which led to a loud LBW challenge.  On-field umpire Tanvir Ahmed turned down the appeal, which made Hridoy very angry. He then got into a heated fight with leg umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid Saikat, who is a well-known match official around the world.

Match referee Niamur Rashid Rahul gave Hridoy a one-match ban and four penalty points for his behaviour on the field after the game.  But things got worse when Hridoy released his anger in a post-game interview with the reporters.

"He's an international umpire, but we're international cricketers too," Hridoy said in a negative tone about the umpiring standards.  He then said, "If things go wrong, I will speak out, InshaAllah," which was a vague threat.

Article 2.8 of the ICC's Code of Conduct says that making these kinds of comments about match officials in public is a Level 2 offence.  As the 36-hour review period came to an end, referee Rahul sent in a second report calling Hridoy's statements "inappropriate, disrespectful, and derogatory towards the umpire."

Because of this, Hridoy got an extra four penalty points and his ban was raised to two games.

Mohammedan just beat Abahani after years and were getting closer to winning the league title. The ban couldn't have come at a worse time.  After Tamim Iqbal's heart-related health scare, Hridoy has been in charge of the team, a job he has taken on with great leadership and play.
