HOBART: Former Australia Test skipper Tim Paine believes Cricket Australia (CA) dumped him at home after the 'sexting scandal' involving him and a former Cricket Tasmania staffer and the weeks before the Ashes at the public, too easily pushed aside.

Paine resigned as skipper following the revelation, with pace bowler Pat Cummins emerging as CA's choice to lead the test side.

On Wednesday, Paine opened up about his farewell to the team setup, pointing out that CA let him go too quickly after the episode, which took place during the 2017/2018 Ashes series but entered the public domain four years later.

Paine, 37, has since been cleared of any wrongdoing. The wicketkeeper-batter recently released his autobiography, The Price Paid, in which he reportedly shed light on the saga and the treatment he received from CA.

"Of course I do (I feel like Cricket Australia brushed me aside too easily) but it's not something I really want to complain about. The book is that I speak my mind, get it off my chest and then move on," Paine told SEN's Whateley on Wednesday.

"I felt like it was covered four years ago, certainly from a Cricket Australia point of view and from a personal perspective with my family, and then upside down at 11am, the night before it went public being asked is something I'm still disappointed with.

"Every decision they make isn't fully accepted or agreed upon by everyone, so I fell on the wrong side of that decision, there's no doubt about that, it hurt me," Paine added.

Paine also said the saga robbed him of all enjoyment of the sport for a considerable time. "The public aftermath of that was quite challenging, it was a little bit cruel, it was very embarrassing for me," he said.

"It was difficult, I kind of fell in love with the game, obviously I knew I had done the wrong thing, I just found (cricket) really hard to watch to be honest, not because I didn't like the game or me was dirty or anyone involved it was just that i was looking forward to this home ashes series and was captain of your country for so long.

“The most painful part was having to take people I really cared about through no fault of my own. The Australian team as it is when you retire, whether it's a good retirement or a bad retirement, it moves on very quickly so it was a real challenge for me to stand there and watch it," he added he added.

Now Paine has returned to the cricket field after surviving the scandal and neck surgery he had earlier this year, playing for his home state of Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield.

"My last memories of cricket, if I hadn't played it again, were clearly quite ordinary ones, so for me it's really important to just go out and play a good year or two for Tasmania and to enjoy the game again is something that is really important to me. I've been pretty quiet for the last few months but really happy now to be coming out on the other side.
